African ambassadors condemn Trump remarks as 'racist'

The alleged expletive came during a meeting between Donald Trump and politicians about immigration reform

Graham and Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of IL presented an agreement to Trump and fellow lawmakers on Thursday at the White House, where the president made his inflammatory remarks. The proposal included a pathway to citizenship and enforcement provisions, but hardliners such as Cotton called the deal "a joke", and Trump told negotiators to come up with something else.

Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the only Democrat in the Oval Office when President Donald Trump used the word "shithole" to describe Haiti, El Salvador and African nations while discussing immigration.

On Wednesday, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg had visited the White House and was praised by Trump for running a trade deficit with the United States and for buying USA military equipment.

Trump said, people briefed on the meeting told The Washington Post. Trump didn't answer this or any other question shouted by reporters about his remarks.

African Union countries have demanded that Donald Trump "retract and apologise" for comments reportedly referring to African nations as "shitholes".

Robert Jackson, the current USA ambassador to Ghana, told Ghanaian reporters past year that Trump's election would not change the relationship between the United States and African nations.

Mr Trump's alleged comment has caused a backlash among people across Africa, in Haiti and El Salvador, with many tweeting pictures of their shithole countries.

New York's Haitian community honored the eighth anniversary of the quake that devastated their country Friday - and denounced President Trump's remark that the island nation was "a shithole".

'Instead, we're subjected to Trump's ignorant, racist views of anyone who doesn't look like him'.

The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly describe the conversation.

In a statement late Thursday, the White House did not dispute the vulgar language reportedly used by Trump during the meeting.

In an essay for Time, the 57-year-old actor and founder of the J/P Haitian Relief Organization slammed Donald on the eighth anniversary of the devastating 2010 Haiti natural disaster. "I've never seen a statement like this by African countries directed at the United States", she wrote.

We're better than this, ' Biden tweeted Friday morning.

Sen. Lindsey Graham wants to be Congress' lead negotiator on overhauling the nation's immigration system, but the South Carolina Republican is facing potentially insurmountable challenges. He has to know, like we all do, that xenophobic commentary plays well with his base, the people who were more than happy to put him in office because they could seamlessly project their racism and misogyny onto his celebrity persona.

This is not the first time Trump has rubbed Africans up the wrong way - he was widely derided previous year after he twice referred to Namibia as "Nambia". It was unclear why the four Republicans were there, and the session did not produce the results the two senators were hoping for. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!

"How do six people bind the other 94 in the Senate? I expect that our assistance programmes would continue pretty much as they are", Jackson told Joy News.

The six senators have been meeting for months to find a way to revive protections for the "Dreamers".

He was referring to January 19, when funds for operating federal agencies expires.
