Almost 2000 Palestinians clash with Israeli forces in Gaza, West Bank

The Associated Press

Violence flared in the Gaza streets after Palestinians attended Friday prayers.

Clashes broke out after dozens of Palestinian supporters of jailed teenager Ahed Tamimi protested near her home in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, AFP correspondents said. Continuing demonstrations in the Gaza Strip follow President Donald Trump's announcement last December that the United States would recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

At least five people in the West Bank suffered injuries when the IDF used rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, Haaretz reports, citing Palestinian health officials. Haaretz reported a total of 176 Palestinians had injuries.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy released the following statement after Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales announced his country will relocate its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, just as the Trump Administration intends to do.

DeGeneres is also a resident of the town, which was hit by the worst fires in California history at the end of a year ago . But as the images below show, the mudslides left the length of the street uncrossable and covered in mud and water.

"Israel is a sovereign nation with the right ... to determine its own capital", the president said at the time. He had been shot in the chest.

"During the unrest [at the border with the Gaza Strip] servicemen selectively resorted to firearms against three main inciters, who posed a threat to soldiers and border facilities", the Armed Forces said.

Tensions were already high ahead of Friday's protests after two 16-year-old Palestinians were killed in clashes with the IDF on Thursday.

Israeli forces have always been criticized for their use of excessive force against Palestinian protesters who did not pose a grave threat to soldiers at their time of death, and who could have been suppressed or detained in a non-lethal manner.
