Ben Roethlisberger says he wants to play three more seasons

Ben Roethlisberger On Future: 'I'm Not Going To Look Past One Year'

The Steelers' stunning loss to the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars in a 45-42 Divisional Round epic wasn't just significant or hurtful in the short-term-for the instant burn of a potential championship-winning season thrown away courtesy of some terrible defense against a rookie running back and a fallible quarterback. In fact, he's telling teammates that he wants to be around for another three seasons.

Perhaps the simplest answer and one Bouchette mentioned is that it is related to offensive coordinator Todd Haley not getting a new contract. You would think Ben Roethlisberger has earned such a right, but the two-time Super Bowl victor and future Hall of Fame quarterback swears he doesn't have the freedom to audible.

"I don't know who's coming back, but I know the guys up front are and that makes it good for me", Roethlisberger told reporters post-match.

"I'm just playing it one year at a time". This gives the Steelers plenty of options going forward.

But during his weekly appearance on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Roethlisberger said he doesn't have permission to change plays at the line.

However, these minority owners have no control over the team management and only have a pipeline to Rooney, who'll ultimately decide Tomlin's future with the Steelers.

"I don't have any control over the coaching staff, who's hired and fired", Roethlisberger said. I'm not playing well enough.

"You might butt heads at times - it doesn't mean that you have any personal problems", Roethlisberger said in response to reports about a fractured relationship with Haley.

Roethlisberger said on the show he does not have the freedom to audible to a QB sneak in those situations. "I never want to leave this city, but obviously, circumstances and things like that".

Roethlisberger said he's asked coach Mike Tomlin if a quarterback draw can be added to the playbook for two-point conversions; according to the quarterback, Tomlin laughs.
