CARICOM condemns derogatory remarks made by US President Donald Trump

Donald Trump defended himself on Sunday in the wake of recent disparaging comments about Haiti and African nations, declaring "I am not a racist", as two Republican senators backtracked on their interpretation of the comments.

Trump addressed the issue briefly as he arrived for dinner at his private golf club in West Palm Beach with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California.

On Sunday, Mr Trump told reporters he was "the least racist person you have ever interviewed", adding: "I'm not a racist".

Trump drew widespread criticism last week after he reportedly referred to African countries as "shit holes". "That I can tell you".

"You can not dismiss entire countries and continents as "shitholes" whose entire populations are not white and, therefore, not welcome", he told reporters at a news briefing in Geneva.

Trump has not clarified to aides what he said, but told reporters Sunday night in Florida that comments attributed to him "weren't made".

"Did you see what various senators in the room said about my comments?"

Last Thursday in a meeting with Washington lawmakers regarding a discussion about protections for immigrants, Trump referred to Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as "shithole countries".

"When I mentioned that fact to him, he said, 'Haitians, do we need more Haitians?' Then he went on and started to describe the immigration from Africa that was being protected in this bipartisan measure".

The Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja, Ambassador David Young, on Monday stated that the derogatory remark allegedly made by the US President Donald Trump against Africans was neither here nor there owing to the different versions of the statement. Durbin said that Trump did use "hate-filled, vile and racist" language in the meeting, according to the Chicago Tribune.

It must be repeated because America is at a "moral crossroads" between Martin Luther King's dream and Trump's nightmare, Yancy said.

When he returned to Mar-a-Lago in the afternoon, Trump took to Twitter to criticize Sen., D-Ill., who accused Trump of making the "shithole" remark he denies. Perdue and Cotton seem to have heard latter, this person said, and are using to deny'. Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator, described the reports as "basically accurate".

Another Republican senator, Lindsey Graham of SC, weighed in but revealed little about what was or wasn't said.

"Durbin has a history of misrepresenting what happens in White House meetings".

Sharpton said that Trump's comments were the ultimate disrespect to hundreds of communities who believe in the American Dream-the same dream of equality and justice that Dr. King had. And more than half - 54% - said it was appropriate for the media to repeat Trump's language.

A few hours after the video was posted, it became viral with thousands of visits and comments, including one in which a user said, "The appropriate response from one of the best shithole countries in Africa".

"I don't think the Democrats want to make a deal", Trump said.
