DACA Is 'Probably Dead' ... and I'm Not a Racist

Negotiations bogged down, however, amid reports that Trump told lawmakers he would rather have more immigrants from Norway and fewer from "shithole countries" including Haiti and some African nations. They don't want security at the border, there are people pouring in.

While the Friday deadline is real on the spending side, it's an artificial deadline for immigration.

In Trump's second tweet, he blamed Democrats for "doing nothing" to reach a deal on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.

Now that some 700,000 DACA folks can regain their protections and permission to work in the US, there's less actual urgency. "They are all talk and no action", Trump tweeted.

"Trump killed DACA and this latest back and forth on doesn't change that". Which protects young immigrants from deportation.

On Thursday, Trump criticized the bipartisan deal in harsh terms.

On Sunday evening, Trump was pressed on the issue upon arriving at his West Palm Beach golf resort where he was to have dinner with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

"Honestly, I don't think the Democrats want to make a deal".

"DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don't really want it", the President tweeted from his Florida retreat at Mar-a-Lago.

Democrats would get full-scale protection and an eventual path to legality for the 800,000 dreamers, along with a permanent reprieve for Salvadorans, Haitians and others who were given "temporary" protection from natural or man-made disasters in their home countries - protection that was extended by Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama for as long as 15 years.

Trump has expressed support for legislation to allow DREAMers to stay in the US but wants it linked to funding a wall on the border with Mexico. Some were brought in the country illegally as children; others entered the USA legally but overstayed visas.

Google's 'free' Spectre patch
Operating system vendors, such as Microsoft , are still working to address these compatibility issues with their updates. Intel has arguably been worst affected of all the major chip designers, with CPUs going back to 1995 affected.

It was that last proposal that seemed to irk Mr. Trump, who reportedly complained about allowing in migrants from "sh - hole countries".

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was another defender of the president, appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press" to insist that Trump couldn't be a racist because of work he had done to help Haiti in the past. The president, in the meeting, also questioned the need to admit more Haitians to the USA, according to people who were briefed on the conversation but were not authorized to describe the meeting publicly.

Still, the words have further poisoned the debate.

"Because we are ready willing and able to make a deal, but they don't want to". Lindsey Graham and Dick Durbin were the two people presenting this compromise there.

As we have reported previously, the Trump Administration is expected to appeal the ruling ordering it to accept DACA renewals and could request a stay of the order while the appeal is ongoing.

Applications for advance parole will not be accepted from DACA beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Saturday it would begin taking renewal applications from undocumented immigrants seeking to register for the DACA program. So I think it's unfair to sort of draw conclusions from a remark that I think wasn't constructive, is the least we can say.

The agency was responding to a stunning decision by Judge William Alsup earlier this month, who said Mr. Trump cut legal corners in announcing the phaseout.

The judge said he perceived comments from the president as suggesting "racial animus towards Mexicans and Latinos", pointing to remarks like when he said the Mexican government "send (s) the bad ones over".

A United States court last Tuesday ruled that DACA should remain in effect until legal challenges brought in multiple courts are resolved.
