Emirates boosts A380 order book

Prince William

Airbus produced its first A380 almost a decade ago, in July 2008, and Airbus COO of customers John Leahy said that this commitment would keep the company producing the four-engine double-decker for at least another decade.

"We've made no secret of the fact that the A380 has been a success for Emirates", he said in a statement. Airbus delivered 15 A380s in 2017, and has said it plans to deliver 12 in 2018, then eight in 2019, with deliveries possibly dropping to six per year beyond that, which would support A380 production into 2032. This ensures an extra lease of life for the production line and gives Airbus additional breathing space to secure additional orders.

Emirates, which is owned by the Dubai government in the United Arab Emirates, said the additional A380s will be delivered to the airliner from 2020 onwards and that some of the new A380s will be used as fleet replacements.

But the A380 has been a disappointment for Airbus. This aircraft has contributed enormously to Emirates' growth and success since 2008 and we are delighted that it will continue to do so. "I'm personally convinced more orders will follow Emirates' example and that this great aircraft will be built well into the 2030s". As per reliable sources, Emirates already has a consignment of over hundred A380 double decker jumbo jets in its fleet along with previously placed orders for forty-one more jets.

The A380 is an essential part of the solution to sustainable growth, alleviating traffic congestion at busy airports by transporting more passengers with fewer flights. Reports claim that the deal to purchase thirty-six superjumbos from Airbus was expected to be signed in November a year ago during the Dubai Air Show.

Emirates rescues the A380 superjumbo from death row

Emirates is by far the largest operator of the 544-seat superjumbo, with 101 now in service and a backlog of 41 already on order before the latest announcement.

According to Airbus, more than 200 million passengers have flown aboard an A380 and the planes have been delivered to 13 airlines.

Emirates Airlines agreed Thursday to order up to 36 Airbus A380s - providing a major boost for the struggling superjumbo program.

Emirates operates a fleet of 269 wide-bodied aircraft and flies to 157 destinations. It was named World's Best Airline in TripAdvisor's 2017 Travelers' Choice Awards. Airbus has warned the investigations could lead to "significant penalties". Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners from 100 to more than 600 seats and business aviation products.

"The share price of Airbus hit a new all-time high this morning on the back of the announcement, but has since pulled back a small bit", said market analyst David Madden at CMC Markets UK.
