Five Sleeping Employees Killed in Fire at Indian Pub

Five people, including a woman, were charred to death after a fire broke out a bar in Bengaluru city on Monday morning. The five people who died were the workers or employees who were sleeping inside the restaurant.

The deceased have been identified as Prasad (20), Swami (23), Keerthi (24), Manjunath (45) and Mahesh, and their bodies were taken to the city's Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.

"Though the cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated, a short circuit appears to have set the blaze", said Anucheth. Fire and emergency services in Bengaluru had recently launched a safety audit of restaurants, bars and pubs in the city.

"This is a 70-year old building where the incident happened". The bar owner has been identified as V Dayashankar.

The fire broke out at the restaurant at around 2.30 am.

Karnataka home minister Ramalinga Reddy told reporters at the spot that it was the responsibility of the owner to look after the safety of his employees.

The government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for relatives of each of the victims. "This tragic incident once again proves the need for strict action against violators of laws", Raj said.

"It is easy to blame the authorities alone, but citizens have to take equal blame for the mess we are in", Newton said.
