Force Awakens Ending Almost Made a Huge Mistake Leading Into Last Jedi

LUCASFILM

The Last Jedi, a squad of TIE Fighers led by Kylo Ren attack the remaining Resistance forces, launching missiles at the bridge and killing a majority of their highest ranking officers.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was written and directed by Rian Johnson, and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio Del Toro, and Frank Oz.

Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been out in theaters for almost a month (and everyone, we're guessing, has seen it at least once), Rian Johnson has been opening up about some of the film's more controversial moments (which he has been gracious about to the fans).

If there was one thing that The Last Jedi had going for it, it was that it set up a lot.

It was an important plot point in The Last Jedi that Luke had shut himself off from the Force, so it wouldn't make sense for him to have rocks floating when Rey first meets him. Once Mark Hamill caught the error, he immediately called Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams to tell them about the mistake. To which the directors replied they cut the scene altogether in order to go a different route.

Rian Johnson's sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to divide fans but the sci-fi adventure also continues to bring in significant amounts of cash across the global box office. Hamill had this to say.

"It's interesting that you mentioned it, because I watched the film last night and I thought, hmmm, maybe that's too incidental", Ducsay said.

Perhaps having a Luke Skywalker so in touch with the Force that he could still float boulders with relative ease, killed the narrative of The Last Jedi, and so we got the broken man who wanted nothing to do with the Force or the Jedi when it was all said and done.
