Greta Gerwig expresses regret about working with Woody Allen

NEW YORK NY- APRIL 26 Dylan Farrow and Mia Farrow attend 2016 Time 100 Gala Time's Most Influential People In The World red carpet at Jazz At Lincoln Center at the Times Warner Center

Greta Gerwig has risen into the national spotlight after writing and directing the much-discussed movie Lady Bird, but she has no interest in working with one of her former directors.

Allen's films inspired Gerwig, but she said she regretted that she ever worked with him on the 2012 film, "To Rome With Love". In an online Q&A with a New York Times columnist published Tuesday, Gerwig said she had now chosen a side.

"I can only speak for myself and what I've come to is this: If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film".

Emma Stone has always been championed as a feminist, but some critics questioned whether her work with Allen was at odds with her public stance.

Greta continued: "Dylan Farrow's two different pieces made me realise that I increased another woman's pain, and I was heartbroken by that realisation".

Stone didn't respond but did say that she'd had a positive experience with Allen in a 2015 interview. "Please know they are deeply felt and appreciated", Farrow tweeted.

"I think that the way women have come together to lead the Time's Up movement and to make clear goals for our industry is how we are going to move forward with purposefulness", she said. Farrow penned an essay putting the Hollywood industry on notice for its continuing support for her father, asking the NY Times' readers, "What's your favourite Woody Allen movie?" and following it with a detailed account of her sexual assault. When asked in interviews how the stars of his movies can justify their decision to work with him, those stars are consistently, perplexingly let off the hook when they inevitably skirt the issue. Allen has been accused by his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, of abusing her. Allen has never been prosecuted for these allegations and has denied all wrongdoing.

"Four years ago, at the Globes in 2014, Woody Allen was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement. That is an admirable and worthwhile objective, I hope these women change the world". But as I wrote about during the show, that only made the night's outliers stand out even more. Is this really the turning point?

"But in order for things to meaningfully change, they need to change unequivocally". No rock should be left unturned.

Farrow has written multiple essays alleging that Woody Allen sexually abused her as a child, and recently criticised some members of the #TimesUp movement for overlooking her accusations.
