Here's your first look at Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in 'Venom'

Via IGN, we now have our first official look at Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock for Sony's upcoming Venom film.

The new Venom movie has already set expectations pretty high, with Tom Hardy promising to "deliver the best Venom that I can possibly muster".

As an explanation, Entertainment Weekly writes, "The Life Foundation appeared in the comics as an organization believing that the Cold War would culminate in a nuclear holocaust".

The pad itself makes specific reference to a "foundation" dealing with pharmaceutical testing, and while this could, in all seriousness, be making reference to any other foundation, chances are it's our first confirmation that the Life Foundation will be pulling the strings in Sony's Venom film. In the "Ultimate" Marvel Universe, the suit has a more terrestrial origin, created by Parker and Brock's scientist parents in an attempt to cure cancer.

In the comics, these five horrific beings - Agony, Phage, Riot, Lasher and Scream. - were spawned from Venom and went on to wreak havoc. Indeed, the actual Venom look is being kept under tight wraps, which isn't too hard since that character is being created using performance-capture-i.e., Venom will mostly be created digitally later on.

The Lethal Protector storyline saw Eddie Brock's Venom recast from a Spider-Man villain into an antihero.

Hardy and the film's director Ruben Fleischer offered the tease at Brazil Comic Con Experience, but that teaser was limited to the people in the room on that day - until now.

Based on previous reports, the film will be based on two major Venom story arcs.

The final entry is the most curious because it's partially obscured by Brock's finger.

We're assuming that second-to-last word is either "killing" or "hurting" but in any case the implication is clear: The Life Foundation's experiments yield tragic results. We'll know for certain when Venom hits theaters October 5th.
