Hospital Investigating After Video Shows Patient Being Left Outside in Gown

Patient sitting on treatment couch

The video posted on Facebook early Wednesday morning by a concerned man shows the woman in obvious distress near a bus stop outside the University of Maryland Medical Center's Midtown Campus in Baltimore.

Wise said she could tell the woman was disoriented, didn't understand what they were saying and was not able to verbally communicate with them.

According to CBS News, incidents like this one happen frequently enough that there's a term for it: "patient dumping".

One Facebook user said: "How uncaring can you be".

"So you are OK with leaving the woman out here?" "You must do better". But the hospital confirmed in a statement that the woman was discharged that Tuesday night.

"That is not okay", he shouted. He says the guards acted like they'd done this before. "Do you need me to call police?"

A Baltimore hospital is being investigated after a man captured footage of employees wheeling a patient outside to leave her in freezing weather.

A regard of the woman shows her not wearing any shoes, only purple socks, and her loosely tied hospital gown appears to be falling off.

"We share the shock and disappointment of many who have viewed the video showing the discharge of a patient from the Emergency Department of UMMC Midtown the night of January 9", Swan said.

At the time, Jackson, who said he had suffered prejudice, was leaning toward a more active fight in the civil rights movement. Floyd is pastor of Cross Church in Rogers and is president of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

A review of the personnel involved with the discharging has begun. Baraka also said that the woman must have been discharged or kicked out of the medical institutions since all of her belongings, including her clothes, were carefully wrapped in plastic bags and placed near her in the bus stop.

Last year, court records show, a man sued Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia for $100 million after alleging that he had been prematurely discharged on a cold winter night - and was subsequently hit by a vehicle.

A viral video taken by a Baltimore resident walking by a hospital has many people questioning hospital practices when releasing homeless patients.

The 1986 Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act prohibits emergency rooms from denying hospital services if they can't pay.

The complaint alleges that Ryberg was so weak that he couldn't stand or walk. He then stumbled into the street, where a auto smashed into him.

WBAL-TV 11 News spoke with the woman's mother, who said her daughter is 22 years old and has a history of mental illness. Two other officers watched as she fell onto the sidewalk. The man who filmed it, Imamu Baraka, follows them as they leave the stop with an empty wheelchair. "I want to bring some attention to this because this is ridiculous".

The woman has been discharged again Baltimore-based WMAR reported, this time put in a cab and sent to a homeless shelter. And in California, which is home to more than one-fourth of the total homeless population of the United States, the issue pops up from time to time.

The woman doesn't respond to Baraka, who then calls 911 and waits as medics presumably take the woman back to the hospital had "dumped" her.
