Innocent teen caught in crossfire of Saturday's shooting has died

An innocent 15-year-old who was shot during a night out with his family in Vancouver over the weekend has died of his injuries.

The 15-year-old boy from Coquitlam was hit by a stray bullet as two men exchanged gunfire on Saturday night.

Investigators believe that Mr. Whiteside exchanged gunfire with at least one other person during Saturday's incident.

An innocent teenager is clinging to life after getting caught in the crossfire of a brazen shooting here on Saturday night, Vancouver Police said on Monday afternoon at a press conference.

The shooting happened early Saturday evening on Broadway near Ontario Street.

Tragically, police say the innocent 15-year-old boy was injured in the shooting as he rode in passing auto.

"This is the type of call I absolutely dread and I am incredibly saddened and heartbroken", says Vancouver's Police Departments Chief Constable Adam Palmer.

Palmer insisted Vancouver was still a safe city and noted it's been a long time since an innocent bystander had been killed in gang violence. He is known to police.

The other man who was injured was in a passing auto and was not a target of the shooting. He was treated at the scene and released. He is from Vancouver and in his 30s.

"They were having a normal Saturday night out with their family and now they are grieving for their son".

Palmer says there are 50 VPD officers working on the case.

Detectives are asking anyone who may havve this footage, and who have not shared it with police, to call investigators at 604-517-2500.

This homicide is Vancouver's first homicide of 2018.
