Is The '12 Strong' Movie Based On A True Story?

Task Force Dagger, including Central Intelligence Agency paramilitary officers and US Army Green Berets Operational Detachment Alpha 595 (ODA 595) were the first American troop sent into Afghanistan to fight and join forces with General Abdul Rashid Dostum of the Northern Alliance to help conduct unconventional warfare against Taliban forces.

The film, which stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Pena and Michael Shannon, centers around American Special Forces in Afghanistan left with horses as their only mode of transportation in a battle against the Taliban, weeks after the September 11 terror attacks. What 12 Strong does deliver, however, is a rousing tribute to the bravery of soldiers whose contributions went unheralded for years. Along the way, there are brief acknowledgements that Afghanistan is the "graveyard of empires" and that the war is far from over, but rather than consider the long-term ramifications, 12 Strong just wants the comfort of good guys versus bad guys on a battlefield.

The upcoming movie, 12 Strong, may seem a little far-fetched, but the USA soldiers who inspired the film are sharing details about the incredible true story.

Brian Truitt, USA TODAY: "What 12 Strong touches on in a real way, though fleetingly in order to get on with all that horse-on-tank action, is the commitment to service following the fateful day in 2001". And that means returning to his role as captain in the Special Forces.

I'm not racist, Trump says after 'shithole countries' remark
He also posted another tweet denying he had insulted Haitians, accusing Democrats of making it up. Trump said in the meeting that he would prefer immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

In the case of 12 Strong, we get Mitch Nelson, and Hemsworth is...fine.

The movie also stars Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes, and Rob Riggle.

SIMON THOMPSON, IGN: "Bearing in mind that this is a Jerry Bruckheimer production, 12 Strong is one of his more restrained and considered exercises in hero storytelling even if some of the beats it tries to hit are slightly off". The true story of the "horse soldiers" is remarkable, but the movie about them is sadly forgettable. But the well-chosen, charismatic cast makes the most out of the material.
