John Dickerson will replace Charlie Rose on "CBS This Morning"

US network replaces shamed anchor with another man

John Dickerson, host of CBS' "Face the Nation" and the network's chief Washington correspondent, will take ousted host Charlie Rose's place on "CBS This Morning", the network confirmed Tuesday.

Rose was sacked in late November following allegations of sexual misconduct. It's not clear if Dickerson will continue to host the program after he joins "CBS This Morning". "Every time I've been on the show, I haven't wanted the conversation with Norah and Gayle to end when my segment does". He will continue hosting Face the Nation at least through the weekend as Rhodes and executive producer Mary Hager determine what's next for the Sunday show. He will join Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell on the A.M. franchise.

USA television channel CBS announced today that its shamed millionaire news anchor, sacked for alleged sexual harassment, had been replaced by another man after its higher-rated rival appointed a woman.

"Today is our sixth anniversary".

Dickerson is no stranger to CBS-he's hosted Face the Nation since 2015 and served as the network's political director.

"This is a new beginning with an old friend", O'Donnell said. CBS has not yet chosen his successor, effectively setting off a horse race at the network for one of television's most influential political roles. Dickerson has been a reporter in Washington since 1995, covering the White House, Congress and economics.

Variety and Deadline also report that Dickerson is expected to be named to the Sunday news program, though CBS News has yet to issue an official statement. Before Slate, Dickerson covered politics for 12 years for Time magazine. CBS is third behind NBC's "Today" and "Good Morning America" in viewership but has made steady progress in ratings and reputation since it was launched with Rose, O'Donnell and King six years ago. CBS THIS MORNING is in its closest competitive position with "Today" in at least three decades and in almost two decades.
