'Let's Be Open': Trump Reportedly Agrees to Special Counsel Team Interview

Mueller's investigation could be looking at obstruction of justice charges against the president his family and closest advisers

The White House has refused to confirm or deny media reports that the US President could be interviewed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller about possible collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential race.

Mueller raised the prospect of interviewing Trump in December, causing the president's attorneys to discuss how to limit the parameters of the session, the Washington Post reports.

"This is moving faster than anyone really realizes", the source said.

"This is moving faster than anyone really realizes", the person said, adding that the president is comfortable participating in an interview and believes it would put to rest questions over whether his team coordinated with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

In addition to the possibility of suggesting the president submit written responses in place of an interview, a second person familiar with the president's legal strategy said another possibility being contemplated was an affidavit signed by the president affirming he was innocent of any wrongdoing and denying any collusion.

"The White House is not going to comment on communications with the special counsel out of respect for the special counsel and process", Sanders responded when asked about the reports.

"They do think that if the investigation goes near his finances, he's sunk", added Wolff, who has been lambasted by the president for writing what Trump has dubbed a "fake" book about life in the White House.

One of Mr Trump's personal lawyers, John Dowd, also declined to comment. Doing so could open the president up to charges of perjury if he does so under oath.

He said that FBI investigators are "very, very good" at trapping people, and Trump should avoid falling into such a trap by declining to submit to an interview, which he is legally entitled to do.

Mr Mueller, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, may also be looking at whether Mr Trump and his inner circle sought to obstruct justice, which has raised speculation that the president himself would be interviewed. But that seems unlikely, some experts say.

"We are dealing with a veteran prosecutor with a proven record of getting to the truth", says one lawyer close to the investigation.

Trump himself has previously expressed concern over any potential attempt by Mueller to look into his financial situation.

Trump claims he has nothing to hide. "But he doesn't know more about the case than they do", Judge Napolitano said. Because in the end, avoiding a Trump-Mueller one-on-one is not just a good course of action, but the only course of action. "Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a fantasy world".
