Matt Patricia To The NY Giants Looking More and More Likely

New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is the favorite to land the Detroit Lions head coaching job according to multiple reports

Some Detroit Lions fans are a bit confused at the report New England defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is favoring taking the Giants head coaching position over the Lions. In fact, there are indications he prefers the Giants to the Lions.

Get the best sports content from the web and social in the new B/R app. If Patricia takes the Giants' open job, Vrabel could land the Lions gig, per King.

On Wednesday, Leonard reported that "all signs" pointed to the Giants hiring the Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator.

Aside from Patricia, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and linebackers coach Brian Flores also drew interest from other teams.

The Patriots defense has ranked among the NFL's top 10 in points allowed in all six of Patricia's seasons despite constant question marks surrounding their secondary.

The New York Giants and newly appointed general manager Dave Gettleman continue to do their due diligence in the search for franchise's next head coach.

The Lions are a bit of a red-headed step child in the National Football League, and the Detroit Free Press has pointed out Patricia spurning them for another head coaching job would be nothing new. "The news was that the Patriots believe he will be leaving, regardless of where he ends up".

Although the Giants and Patricia cannot make any type of formal agreement until the Patriots' season is over, the spot can essentially be held for him, like the Falcons did for Dan Quinn and more recently the 49ers did for Kyle Shanahan.

He would take over for Steve Spagnuolo, the Giants' interim head coach who stepped in after Ben McAdoo was sacked after Week 13 of a nightmare 2017 season.
