'Jersey Shore' Star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino to Plead Guilty in Tax Fraud Case

Former reality TV celebrity Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino is expected to plead guilty in a tax evasion case where USA prosecutors accused him and his brother of hiding millions of dollars he made while starring in the MTV series Jersey Shore.

According to the Dept of Justice, The Situation and his brother "have agreed to plead guilty", and will officially enter their pleas this Friday.

The plea hearing is scheduled for Friday. Both the reality TV show star and his brother are charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. It remains to be seen what their punishment will be, or exactly to which charges they pleaded.

Marc's lawyer declined to comment while The Situation's lawyer didn't get back to us.

Michael D'Alessio - Marc Sorrentino's lawyer - did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Jersey Shore ran from 2009 to 2012, and featured young Italian-Americans partying, tanning, and complaining about their jobs at a beachfront T-shirt stand.

The Sorrentinos were initially indicted in 2014 and were accused of failing to properly pay taxes on $8.9 million in income that the reality star raked in from promotional activities.

They also allegedly stuck to cash deposits of less than $10,000 into different bank accounts; cash deposits of more than $10,000 must be reported to the federal government.

It is Mike who is charged with tax evasion and structuring funds, while brother Marc adding a falsifying records to obstruct a grand jury investigation charge to his docket.

In 2014, the Sorrentino brothers pleaded not guilty to charges they filed bogus tax returns on almost $9 million and claimed millions in personal expenses as business expenses.

Both the Jersey Shore star and his brother/manager Marc were facing up to 20 years after failing to report nearly $9million in earnings.
