Raptors-Heat fallout: Ibaka to sit, DeRozan hit in pocketbook

Game Preview Raptors at Nets Holly Mac Kenzie

Miami Heat forward James Johnson and Toronto Raptors forward Serge Ibaka have each been suspended one game without pay for throwing punches at one another, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Ibaka and Johnson were ejected after trading punches at 7:50 of the third quarter.

While Josh Richardson and Wayne Ellington are credited for knocking down the game-winners versus the Utah Jazz and Raptors, respectively, Erik Spoelstra also deserves a lot of credit for designing the right plays on the sidelines. The two squared up after Ibaka set a screen near the left elbow. They both got in another shot before being separated. Officials reviewed the incident before giving both players technical fouls and ejections. Ibaka will serve his suspension Thursday when Toronto hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan and Heat guard Goran Dragic were also involved in a heated exchange following the game. DeRozan was fined $25,000.

Tanker and ship collision near Shanghai leaves 32 missing
CF Crystal , which was built in 2011, was due to arrive in China on January 10, according to Reuters ship tracking data. According to Reuters' ship-tracking data, the oil tanker was sailing from Kharg Island in Iran to Daesan, South Korea.

Including the suspensions and fines, Ibaka will lose more than $138,000 while Johnson will lose more than $96,000. Johnson is making $13.7 million. He received eight previous year.

James Johnson's absence could leave the Heat with 10 available players tonight, but just six from the regular rotation.

However, he's scored 24 or more points in three of the last five games-which were all Heat victories-as a driving force behind the recent winning streak.
