Stunning Report: Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner Call off Divorce

Anthony Weiner right and Huma Abedin appear in court in New York on Wednesday Sept. 13 2017

Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., and former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin agreed Wednesday to settle their divorce out of court, representatives said.

The former congressman is now serving almost two years in federal prison.

According to Page Six, Abedin was scheduled to appear in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday for a compliance conference in their contested divorce.

The judge confirmed from the bench that the case had been discontinued.

But an attorney speaking on behalf of Abedin clarified to the New York Daily News that this does not mean the couple will stay married - just that the divorce proceedings will be handled privately. In 2013, he attempted a political comeback and made a run for mayor of New York City, only for more sexting allegations to emerge and end his campaign.

Abedin publicly forgave her husband, who finished fifth in the Democratic primary.

In May 2017, Weiner pleaded guilty to one count of transferring obscene material to a minor and told the court, "I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse".

In September, 53-year-old Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in jail.
