Tomb Raider movie gets second trailer showing off Lara Croft

Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider trailer

Alicia Vikander's debut as the iconic video game heroine Lara Croft on the silver screen is just two months away. In this reboot, Croft is a young woman wracked with grief after losing her father, ultimately embarking on a global adventure to find answers about the man's demise. While searching for her father she runs into the villainous Mathias Vogel played by Walton Goggins, who is part of the deadly Trinity organization. Via a recording, Croft's father tells her Trinity must be stopped.

The new teaser, soundtracked by a moody cover of Destiny's Child's Survivor, shows Lara navigating the streets of East London in a cycle chase, before pitching her on a mission to locate her missing dad (Dominic West). The film stars Oscar victor Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role, under the direction of Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed) producing under his GK Films banner. Sure, Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider films were something (I mean, they happened) but this feels like it will be faithful to the character and tone we fell in love with in 2013. Enough of my chatter, let's check out this new trailer! However, after spending several years in production turnaround, the Vikander-led version looks to breathe come new life into the Croft mythos and give the studio another big-time box office anchor to call their own.

Watch the latest "Tomb Raider" trailer above. Tomb Raider is set to hit theaters on March 16th, 2018. However, if it's more in line with what we got in that first trailer, this may be yet another notch in the belt of "horrible video game adaptations". The first Tomb Raider trailer generated mixed responses, while the first Tomb Raider poster became a hot topic for conversation for... odd reasons, to say the least.
