Toyota Adding Alexa to Select Cars in 2018

There's a lot of third-party devices out there that are putting Alexa on your dashboard as an aftermarket add-on, but Toyota is one of the first automakers to fully embrace loading their vehicles up with Amazon's voice-powered smart assistant.

The deal reflects a partnership between two of the world's largest companies, each of which can stake a claim to having revolutionized their industries.

The automaker announced Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that it is rolling out Amazon Alexa capability in certain 2018 and 2019 vehicles.

Many automakers have struggled with voice recognition software for years, causing a clunky or ineffective user experience.

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson, Cubs' Kris Bryant get record deals
Toronto's remaining arbitration eligible players are right-handers Marcus Stroman and Roberto Osuna . Loup went 2-3 with a 3.75 ERA in 70 relief appearances in 2017.

While on the road with a connection to the Internet, Alexa can provide directions, the news, access audio books, adjust smart home settings or a number of other voice-command tasks. According to Toyota, they will be fitting their future vehicle with Alexa this year but so far, they have not said anything about adding the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

Toyota Motor Corp joins Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, Nissan Motor Co, Hyundai Motor Co, Daimler AG, BMW AG and Ford Motor Co in either letting Alexa into their vehicles or integrating the voice service into the connectivity systems that link customers' cars and mobile phones.

The auto industry has gradually adopted more technology from Silicon Valley in recent years. Fans were hoping that Toyota will also start offering the Apple CarPlay support and Android Auto this year but at this point, we still do not know if that is going to happen or not.
