Two militants killed in ongoing Kokernag encounter

"Today morning a gunfight broke out in the forest area of Larnoo Kokernag here between security forces and militants" a police official posted in Anantnag told Xinhua.

Personnel of the Army's Rashtriya Rifles, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group of the state police surrounded Larnoo village in Anantnag following a tip about the presence of some militants.

"During the search operation, militants fired on security forces and tried to flee from the area".

The identities of the slain militants are being ascertained and combing operations are underway, officials said. The killed civilian has been identified as Khalid Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Samad Dar, a resident of Khodweni.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police SP Pani confirmed the killing of the militant and of the civilian in Khodweni.

Meanwhile, authorities blocked internet services in the southern district.
