Wahlberg Earned 1500 Times More Than Williams For Doing The Same Work

SAG-AFTRA Looking Into 'All The Money In The World' Pay Disparity Claims

Scott told USA Today in December that, while he paid the crew and Plummer for the reshoot, he, Williams and the other actors were willing to do their scenes for free. As Kyle Buchanan reported in a profile of her for Vulture, "Williams offered to forgo both her salary and Thanksgiving holiday if it meant the film could make it over the finish line, and the production took her up on both offers". But many have expressed outrage that the financier and/or studio didn't feel a moral responsibility to pay Williams a proportionate sum.

Now, however, sources tells USA Today that both actors had preexisting language in their contracts concerning reshoots, with one person explaining to the paper, "What he said was, 'I will not approve Christopher Plummer unless you pay me.' And that's how he (expletive) them".

The 37-year-old actress said: "I just thought that this experience that we had all treasured was going to be essentially flushed down the toilet". Williams took home a paltry $1000 for giving up her time and Thanksgiving to reshoot, meanwhile Wahlberg pocketed $1.5 million for doing exactly the same. Jessica Chastain, now starring in the Golden Globe-nominated "Molly's Game", called Williams a "brilliant" actress who "deserves more".

Actor Christopher Plummer replaced Spacey in the role of billionaire Jean Paul Getty in the film based on the real-life kidnapping of Getty's grandson John Paul Getty III. It seems there was little-to-no communication about each actor's deal between the agents (apparently this is normal), and if there was, they did a much better job representing Wahlberg, their male star, over Williams.

Hollywood has been left rocked after reports of a significant pay gap between the male and female stars of All The Money In The World, during the reshoots without Kevin Spacey. Actors pay a team of agents, managers and lawyers an average of 10% of their salaries to advocate for them.

Williams seems to have decided that, of these two ideas, the former was more important. The problem is that she, her representatives and the producers of "All The Money In The World" all accepted that pulling off that ambitious goal required her to forfeit a salary.

Publicists for Wahlberg and Williams did not respond to requests for comment.

Imperative Entertainment, the company that produced it, ultimately agreed to US$1.5 million. (Williams is represented at William Morris Endeavor by Brent Morley.) Wahlberg was already not thrilled to have worked for roughly 80 percent less than his standard fee, the people said, especially since overseas distributors were using his box office track record to promote the film.
