Walmart to Shutter 63 Sam's Club Stores

Employees showed up to work at several Texas locations only to find a note on the door that read, "Sam's Club is closed today".

None of the closed Sam's Club locations are in the metro-east, including O'Fallon and Glen Carbon.

Sam's Club is closing at least two central IN locations, effective January 26, 2018.

Sam's Club, replying to a message from a Twitter user criticizing the chain, says it made a decision to close a series of clubs to "better align our locations with our strategy".

Walmart is abruptly closing some of its Sam's Club stores nationwide, including a Richmond-area location. "If the company feels they meet one of those exceptions they won't file that notice".

At least five Sam's Club stores in the Chicago area and more in IN and other states are abruptly closing.

The Norfolk Sam's Club has only been open since November 2015.

FOX 13 in Memphis reports that employees were called in for a meeting January 11 and told the store was closing.

Managers were not able to comment on why the store was closed Thursday or why it will be permanently closing.

According to Sam's Club, customers who purchased the store's membership cards required to shop there will be refunded for that fee.

"This announcement comes as Walmart today announced it will raise its minimum wage to $11 per hour as a result of the Trump Corporate Tax Give Away". Hearing other stores also affected. But former employees have been posting to social media that they were not given any warning.
