49ers LB Reuben Foster reportedly arrested on domestic violence, assault rifle allegations

First-round NFL Draft pick arrested for second time in a month

It's Foster's second arrest in the past month.

Reuben Foster has a court date set for his January arrest in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for second-degree possession of marijuana.

Foster, 23, was booked into Santa Clary County Main Jail. Current court records, however, show that Foster has posted bail at $75,000 and has since been released from custody. The presence of possible aggravating factors may warrant a longer suspension.

The NFL will surely review both cases as they pertain to the policies on substance abuse and personal conduct.

The San Francisco Chronicle first reported Foster's arrest and, the San Jose Mercury News reported the additional charge related to suspicion of possession of an assault rifle. "Last year, the National Football League suspended Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games for domestic violence even though he was never arrested or charged".

Foster had troubles before the NFL Draft, too.

Easily considered a top-10 pick at the time, Foster got into a "heated altercation" with a hospital worker during a routine physical exam. His 72 tackles, including 7 TFL, ranked second and third, respectively, on the club despite Foster missing six games.

General manager John Lynch acknowledged red flags facing Foster after drafting him in the spring.

According to MMQB, Foster was not picked until the 31st choice in the first round because teams with higher picks were concerned about Foster due to his "immaturity" and "issues with life skills". "We all know how special a player he can be when he's right".

This season Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott served a six-game suspension for domestic violence despite the fact that OH prosecutors declined to pursue the case a year ago, citing conflicting evidence. In the meantime, let's see if anything comes from these domestic violence charges.
