Carnival to review security response to brawls on Australia-based ship

One man was seen with his head wrapped in a bandage as they were arrested by police in the early hours of Friday morning

The Carnival general manager, Jennifer Vandekreek, said there were "limited and isolated events with the family in question" in the lead-up to the brawl.

"That moment is ruined forever now", said Barsoum. The thong's trampler apologised, the man said, but its owner threatened retaliation, and the groups began to feud.

NSW Police said in a statement they were told several men fought in the early morning hours Friday while the ship was about 220 kilometers (137 miles) off Jervis Bay, New South Wales. It's not clear what caused the dispute, though one passenger told News.com.au that it went on for 45 minutes, some of which was recorded.

"Our security team responded in several instances to extremely unruly behavior by these guests while the ship was at sea", Carnival said in a statement obtained by Fox News.

"I won't be travelling Carnival ever again so a 25 percent off a future cruise in my eyes is unacceptable", passenger Mark Morrison told the Associated Press.

She said she believed the violence had all been instigated by one large family group of at least 20 people who "came onto the boat wanting to fight people" and were using any excuse to start trouble.

"Fights have been going on for a few days now", she told the radio station.

"Safety is the number one priority for Carnival Cruise Line, we take a zero-tolerance approach to excessive behaviour that affects other guests and we have acted accordingly on Carnival Legend", a spokesman said. In footage of the altercation shared by 3AW later that day, dozens of passengers and staff members could be seen punching, kicking and wrestling in what appeared to be a violent altercation near the ship's nightclub.

"Five of them surrounded my husband", she said.

Some of the passengers told Seven Network they wanted full refunds from the cruise line. "We are conducting a full investigation and will take appropriate corrective action as necessary".

David Barkho's 20-year-old son George was among the men on board the cruise ship at the weekend. "I could hear a lot of screaming, crying in the background".

On Friday, police escorted a host of passengers off the ship and into a waiting bus.

Until the ship docked, 9News reported, several aggressive passengers were locked in their cabins in a form of house arrest. It says it cooperated fully with authorities in Australia to remove the family from the ship. No one has been charged following the incident. A man on the police boat raised a middle finger in response.

The Carnival Legend arrived in its home port in Melbourne on Saturday, a day after 23 members of the same family were offloaded in an unscheduled stop-off on the NSW South Coast.

A further 14 passengers, including women and children, then also voluntarily left the ship.
