Ryan Mason has told talkSPORT he is keen to begin a coaching career at former club Tottenham after hanging up his boots at the age of 26. Although his story didn't finish with ultimate happy ending, his determination, attitude and bravery he's shown during his recovery is something to be admired and an inspiration for others! "All the best Ryan".

After eight minutes of treatment on the pitch during the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge in January 2017, Mason was given oxygen as he was carried off on a stretcher.

"Obviously it's a horrendous injury that he's got, and he's done, and the medical people have done everything they possibly can to give him the opportunity to continue playing".

Hull manager Nigel Adkins added: "The injury happened before my time, but all I know is that Ryan has worked so hard in the time that I have been here".

"Now, at some stage there has to be a decision made".

Following his injury, Mason's Hull team-mates displayed their support by wearing shirts with his name and squad number on the back before a League Cup semi-final clash with Manchester United.

Adkins confirmed Mason has now cut ties with Hull, moving out of his accommodation in the area and "back down south with his family".

Mauricio Pochettino recently described Mason as a "special player" and insisted the door is open for the midfielder to return to Tottenham. "Good luck in whatever you choose to do next, Ryan".

The Spurs boss said: "I remember very well how we found him the first day; sitting in the gym, head down and so sad".

A few months later, after some glowing reports from academy coach John McDermott, Mason began to break into the first team.

"I've got a son and a lovely fiancee around me, so these are the sort of things that mean more to you than football when things are put into perspective", he said.
