Tennis players aren't supposed to get concussions, a lawyer for Canadian pro Eugenie Bouchard told jurors Friday in opening statements for the athlete's damages trial against the managers of the US Open.

Asked how she felt as she left the courthouse, Bouchard responded, "Just relief and happiness right now", adding she was ready to get back to playing tennis.

Many people testified, including David Brewer, the US Open tournament director, who stated that it was unclear who put kept the cleaning substance because of which Bouchard fell in the locker room after having a shower.

She sued the USTA for unspecified damages.

"I was laying there shocked, staring at the ceiling", she said.

Alan Kaminsky, the lawyer representing the tennis association, also expressed satisfaction at the resolution. With AP Photos. The United States Tennis Association and popular Canadian player Eugenie Bouchard have reached a settlement in her liability lawsuit, ending a NY trial at which she testified about slipping on a wet locker room floor at the 2015 U.S. Open and hitting her head.

Bouchard, once ranked No. 5 in the world, slid steadily in the standings post-fall; she now is ranked 116th.

Bouchard has struggled to find her best form in recent years and is now ranked 116 in the world, having not gone past the third round at a grand slam in her last nine attempts. She left the courthouse on Thursday without commenting.

Bouchard's lawsuit claimed the USTA was at fault for applying the product, while the organization countered that Bouchard, who had played a late mixed doubles match, should have known that the room was being cleaned at 11:00 pm.
