Google Has Removed 'View Image' Button From Image Search

With one tiny tweak, Google has made it much harder for one to steal images

Millions of Companies who use the search engine to hunt for none copyrighted images are now being restricted from getting access to high res images after Getty Images complained to the European Commission, accusing Google of anti-competitive practices.

However the changes are only cosmetic.

While the "View Image" button has been eliminated on image search results, users will continue to see a "Visit" button that directs them to the actual Web sites hosting the photos or other images, Sullivan said. As a result, Google has removed this button, forcing users to visit the site to access the full-sized version of the image. It meant you could click an image in the stream, then click the button to see the image full size without having to load anything else.

ViewImage adds the "Search by Image" and "View Image" buttons back to the google images results page.

While it is still possible to to do after the removal of the button on Google Images - users can still right-click on the image and select "open image in new tab" or a similar option - view image made the whole process easier and many Internet users probably don't know that they can open the image through the context menu.

It was reported that a year ago, the European Commission supposedly received a complaint filed by Getty Images.

Earlier this month, the two firms had agreed that images from Getty's enormous archives would start appearing inside Google Search, but that was not the only part of the deal. From there, the image can be expanded with just a click and a copy can be saved afterward.

He noted that Google Images is created to help users find information when browsing images provides a "better experience" than does searching through text.

Google confirmed that the change is directly related to the Getty Images complaint.

"This is an terrible update, user unfriendly 'update.' Literally degraded the product".
