Harvey Weinstein, His Brother And Their Company Hit With Civil Rights Lawsuit

New York. A lawyer for Weinstein called actress Rose McGowan's claims of rape against the former Hollywood producer are

"The suit, filed today in New York County Supreme Court, includes new and extensive allegations about longtime company CEO Harvey Weinstein's vicious and exploitative mistreatment of company employees".

NY prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against the Weinstein Company, alleging that the studio failed to protect staff from Harvey Weinstein.

Harvey Weinstein, 65, was one of the most powerful and influential figures in Hollywood before being accused of sexual harassment and assault by dozens of women.

Schneiderman believes a sale "would leave victims without adequate redress, including a lack of a sufficient victims compensation fund" and could allow "the perpetrators or enablers of the misconduct to see a windfall", according to the release. The complaint also cites instances in which Weinstein Co. senior managers failed to respond to employe complaints about Harvey Weinstein's behavior.

As Variety noted, this lawsuit has come at a precarious time for TWC and an investor group led by Maria Contreras-Sweet, which was in talks to buy the company for $500 million, including $225 million in assumed debt.

Weinstein's drivers in Los Angeles and NY were required to keep condoms and erectile dysfunction injections in the auto at all times, papers charge.

Harvey Weinstein can't escape being a media or legal target.

"If a deal is not reached, the Weinstein Co. may be forced into bankruptcy".

Schneider's office says the lawsuit, which can be read below, "is the result of an ongoing four month investigation" into Weinstein and the company he co-founded.
