HTC smartphone business president leaves sinking ship ahead of U12 launch

HTC mobile chief resigns before the unveiling of company's last flagship HTC U12

Further, the reason for the resignation is mentioned as a "personal career plan". HTC announced the move on its investors page earlier today and it's effective immediately, though Chang's successor is yet to be named.

Chialin Chang joined the company as CFO back in April 2012.

This morning brings us news that HTC's Chia-Lin Chang, who was occupying the position of President of Smartphones and Connected Devices, has resigned. While Chan was rather evasive regarding his career plans once he leaves HTC, some reports indicate that the executive aims to launch an AI start-up sometime this year. Over the past couple of years, he's been at the helm of HTC's switch in design language with the U Ultra and the U 11 variants. The company is still expected to release a flagship smartphone this year, likely coming as the HTC U12, boasting a dual camera setup and high-end specs all around.

Chang Chia-lin (張嘉臨) resigned on Wednesday as president of Taiwan-based HTC Corp's Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, at a time when the Taiwanese smartphone brand is struggling against stiff global competition. Last month, HTC closed on its transaction with Google, which means that the company received $1.1 billion from the search giant in return for its Pixel division, and a non-exclusive license allowing Google to use some of HTC's patents. "We thank him for his dedication to the Company for the last 6 years and wish him well in his future endeavors".
