It remains unclear whether any of the 28 athletes whose bans were overturned by the court will be able to compete at the Pyeongchang Games, which start on February 9.

"Twenty-eight cases were upheld by the appeal".

Mutko says Russian athletes whose doping bans were lifted deserve to be treated as "clean and honest" at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee, however, stated that doping-free athletes from Russian Federation might go to the 2018 Olympic Games under the classification of neutral athletes, or the OAR status, which stands for 'Olympic Athlete from Russian Federation'.

On Thursday the Court for Arbitration for Sport overturned life bans imposed on 28 Russian athletes linked to a Russian state-sponsored doping scheme, ruling them potentially eligible for participation in the Winter Olympics.
