Jones puts pressure on 'third-choice' half

The 34-year-old has not featured for England since October 2015, but is immediately included among the replacements to face Warren Gatland's side. Whether Wales can cope is another issue.

England coach Eddie Jones has backed Jonathan Joseph to make life tough for Wales fly-half Rhys Patchell after recalling the centre for Saturday's Six Nations clash at Twickenham.

I swapped shirts with (England scrum-half) Ben Youngs that day, so I've got his shirt hanging up in my house.

"We've got one of the most hard games to referee and the game only gets more complex".

In terms of style, Gatland's claims of familiarity stand up, but it's the intangible qualities Jones has brought to England that makes Wales' task of winning so daunting.

Wales visits Twickenham on Sunday (AEDT) to take on an England side which kicked off the championship with a 46-15 away win over Italy and is chasing an unprecedented third consecutive title.

Simmonds made his debut for Exeter in November 2012, one day after his 18th birthday, as a replacement at London Welsh in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, but he did not make his Premiership debut until February previous year against Wasps when he played at number eight and scored a try. They will need to do the same to England, but that will be considerably more challenging with Dylan Hartley one of the most precise throwers in the game. "They are going to be full of energy, full of passion and it's going to be a great Saturday".

They've only got one more home game this tournament, so will have to try and impress on the road.

They have named an unchanged side with seven of the starting XV having never played an global at Twickenham before.

The tightness on that occasion was typical of their recent encounters.

"The rivalry is there and the history is fantastic in the Six Nations and that is what makes the tournament".

"Wales have to get the ball wide and Patchell hasn't played much Test match rugby". And then they give us the ball back. Not being intimidated by the Twickenham factor at all.

A WHITE number 9 jersey hanging on Gareth Davies' wall serves as a reminder that Wales should have no fears about going to Twickenham. But not one of them is flyhalf Rhys Patchell, whom Jones has promised will be targeted. "It's not a great sight", Jones says.

But Jones feels Patchell is one of a number of Wales players who could "struggle with the expectation".

"He has got to find guys willing to help him, because he is going to be under some heat".

"The team is hugely excited about playing in front of 82,000 fans at Twickenham and we'll be well prepared and ready to go out there and beat Wales on Saturday", said Jones. "Jonathan's got great experience, he's fast, a great defensive player. I'd imagine that when (Wales captain) Alun Wyn Jones and the guys go down for breakfast on Saturday morning, they'll be looking at him thinking: 'can this kid handle the pressure today?' It's a big ask".
