Kate bucks the trend in dark green dress at Baftas

Princess Eugenie Kate Middleton Wedding

Prince William's gorgeous wife was the center of attention on the red carpet at the 2018 BAFTA Film Awards this weekend, where she showed off a healthy and happy third trimester of her pregnancy with William by her side.

The mother of Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2, who is now pregnant in her third trimester, however, did wear a black tie around her dress above her glowing figure, in what may have been a subtle nod to fellow women. Even if she wanted to support #TimesUp, it would break royal protocol for her to openly make a political statement.

Kate did wear black previous year though, stealing the show in floral Alexander McQueen.

For last year's star-studded awards night, the royal donned a cold-shoulder gown from go-to label, Alexander McQueen's resort 2016 line.

The dress code is similar to other red carpets, most notably the Golden Globes, when women and men both showed their support for gender equality and human rights for women.

The furor over sexual misconduct forms a somber backdrop to the awards, whose front-runners include monster fantasia "The Shape of Water", tragicomedy "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and World War II flag-waver "Darkest Hour". Like last month's Golden Globes, stars walking the red carpet nearly universally opted to wear black in support of #TimesUp, the movement against sexual harrassment in the industry.

The Duchess of Cambridge may have ignored the all-black memo but could her black ribbon have been an act of concession? Prince William has been President of the Academy since February 2010.

"Catherine and I are extremely pleased to be here amongst you all this evening", William said at tonight's event.

"I think the most important thing with all of this is speaking out and being seen to speak out", said Amanda Nevill, chief executive of the British Film Institute.

"Your support of BAFTA - sharing skills, expertise and time - means we can ensure the growth of creative talent in the United Kingdom and internationally. It seems more timely now than we could ever have imagined".
