Kohli ton leads India to eight-wicket rout of South Africa

India defeated South Africa in the 5th ODI in Port Elizabeth to clinch the six-match ODI series on Tuesday

Cape Town - Virat Kohli put his indelible stamp on a famous Indian victory when he scored his 35th ODI century - his third in the current series - to lead his side to a decisive 5-1 victory over the Proteas following an eight-wicket victory with nearly 18 overs to spare in the final ODI at SuperSport Park on Friday evening.

If the Test series is included as well, South African batsmen have seemed struggling throughout the Indian tour as only one Century has so far been scored from them while India have produced five Centuries. While Curator Bryan Bloy's ODI wicket offered more bounce than its Test counterpart, the ball still spun appreciably for Yuzvendra Chahal, who grabbed a fifer. But the home team recovered their poise - or so it appeared - in Johannesburg, chasing down a stiff target to win a match that was hit by lightning and rain. Their status as the No.1 team in Test was also retained even though they lost the series 2-1 to the Proteas.

More than losing that match, the Indians were anxious about the treatment their two wrist-spinners - Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal - got from the rampaging Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller. After being asked to bat first, South Africa made a slow start to their innings, losing stand-in captain Aiden Markram and opener Hashim Amla lowly for 24 and 10 runs, respectively off Thakur's deliveries.

Shardul Thakur comes in for Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India won the toss and bowl first. India has got an unassailable 4-1 lead in the series.

Andile Phehlukwayo (34) and AB de Villiers (30) also made decent contributions, but eventually the wickets fell just too often to enable the Proteas to record a decent total.

An upbeat India, who had earlier scripted a history in South Africa with an unprecedented series win following a 73-run win in the fourth ODI, are looking to end the series with a 5-1 win heading into the match. We have four changes to the side.

"I don't think we have been in this position in the ODI format". SuperSport will telecast the game live in South Africa.

"For now, 4-1 feels fantastic". Despite that, the Mumbaikar continued his flow of runs to bring up his century in the 36th over after he got a lucky escape batting on 96 being dropped by Tabraiz Shamsi.

Match starts: 4.30 pm (IST). If he gets a fair share of batting today, Dhoni will definitely score the required runs.
