Disney's D23 Expo Japan, starting today, could be the site of an announcement concerning Kingdom Hearts III.

Square Enix also released a new gameplay trailer revealing that Monsters Inc is a new world players can visit.

As is par for the course with the jump between worlds, Sora and his buddies have been transformed to fit in. He gets to keep his red spiky hair, but he now has furry blue skin.

A new English language trailer is available for Kingdom Hearts 3.

Global supestar Utada Hikaru is well-known among the Kingdom Hearts fanbase.

The game will also feature characters from previous "Kingdom Hearts" game. Organization 13 villain Marluxia returns to the story for the first time since "Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories" in 2008. The Keyblade wielder Vanitas from "Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep" will also be part of the story. Firstly there's an exploration phase, which is thought to be open world based.

It's been a long wait, but one of the main reasons is that a year into developing Kingdom Hearts 3, the team switched game engines. With Final Fantasy XV's propensity for crossovers with other games, I wouldn't be surprised, but Square Enix's focus right now seems to be on showcasing the Disney side of Kingdom Hearts 3. Development is now split into three distinct sections: Early, middle, and late. The early worlds are about 90% complete, with the middle worlds being about 60% complete.

Tetsuya Nomura, series director, provided some inside information on the development of the game. It is said, though, the actual game could feature more than nine worlds.
