Pakistan Sentences Serial Killer To Death

According to Dawn, Imran Ali has been handed four counts of death penalty, one life time and Rs3.2m (Dh106,000 approx) in fines.

"I want him to be hanged publicly at the place where he took Zainab", the mother told reporters after the verdict.

Imran Ali has been charged with kidnapping, for rape, murder, and under Section 7-ATA.

After the police arrested Imran, the suspect reportedly confessed to assaulting eight minor girls at an under-construction site and two others in a garbage heap.

Footage from closed-circuit television showed the victim being led down a street near her home by the suspect and her body was found in a rubbish dump after she went missing for four days.

A slide showing a picture of Imran Ali, the serial killer responsible for the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab Ansari, is shown at a press conference in Lahore on January 23.

After the tragic incident surfaced in Kasur, people from all walks of life demanded exemplary punishment, including public execution, for the accused.

Sheriff's deputies located the mask and the weapon, which turned out to be a pellet gun. He confessed to being the attacker, according to the BSO's report, cited by AP.

One million rupees of the fine would be given in compensation to Zainab's family, public prosecutor Abdul Rauf Wattoo said. Police officers resorted to aerial firing when violent protesters tried to storm commissioner office, killing two people and injuring three others. The prosecutor informed the court that the forensic report and polygraph test proved that Imran murdered Zainab, reported Geo News.

The post-mortem of the minor revealed that she had been raped before being murdered. Expressing satisfaction over the court verdict, he said the convict must be hanged in front of public "so the whole world could watch".

The verdict was announced by ATC judge Sajjad Ahmed at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.

He was arrested two weeks after Zainab's body was found. Police say they found DNA evidence linking him to Zainab as well seven other girls, reports Reuters.

The public demand for the immediate arrest of the rapist resulted in an unprecedented search that was joined by nearly all law enforcement and security agencies.

According to investigators, Ali took the girl to an under-construction house where he raped and killed her.
