Australia captain Steve Smith won his second Allan Border Medal on Monday, becoming the fifth player to claim the country's highest individual cricket honour a couple of times. Smith (246) was miles ahead from Warner (162) in terms of votes.

Smith, who had a fabulous year piled up 1305 runs at an average of 81.56 during the voting period that saw him win the Test Player of the Year Award and also led his team to a home Ashes series victory as well. Pace bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood made the fourth and fifth places with 111 and 72 votes respectively.

Smith, who also won the Allan Border medal in 2015, accumulated 246 votes ahead last year's victor Warner (162).

Smith, 28, is also the reigning ICC Test Cricketer of the Year after earning that accolade last month. Smith's record for the year reads; 1,754 runs at an average of 67.46 across all global formats.

Hailed as the country's finest batsman since Donald Bradman, Smith had won his first medal in 2015 and joins Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Shane Watson and Warner to have won the accolade a couple of times. "It's kind of like that dream you have as a kid where you turn up to school naked".
