Twitter has pulled its app for this Apple device

Twitter for Mac officially discontinued: here are alternatives

Plus, Twitter's support for the client has been erratic at best, having rolled out just a few updates, if ever.

Support for Twitter for Mac will also end in 30 days, the micro-blogging site added.

On Friday, Twitter announced that it would be shutting down work on its Mac desktop app, to the dismay of, err, no one.

The company says that it is discontinuing the app to focus its "efforts on a great Twitter experience that's consistent across platforms". What does Twitter recommend as a replacement?

Of course, many users don't like using Twitter on the web, which is a less than great experience for some. It seems like it's fully given up on maintaining a native desktop client for Mac.

For those who still want an app for Twitter on the Mac, you can checkout third-party solutions such as Twitterrific or Tweetbot.

The app hadn't exactly been flourishing in recent years, scoring a dismal 1.7 out of 5 in the App Store.

Twitter has been unsuccessful to keep its Mac app up to date with the latest features. Twitter didn't even make the app itself; the company outsourced development to a third-party digital studio in Seattle called Black Pixel. As always, if you have anything to share, feel free to sound them off in the comments section below!
