United States of America edges Canada en route to gold medal

The victory happened on the 38th anniversary of 1980's "Miracle on Ice" where the Team USA men won over the Soviets who were attempting their 5th straight gold medal.

US goalie Maddie Rooney played an essential role in the game, stopping 29 shots in regulation and the 20-minute overtime, as well as blocked Meghan Agosta's shot on her second try of the shootout to secure the win. It also happened on the 38th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice" - the USA men's ice hockey win at the 1980 Winter Olympics against the Soviet Union, the defending gold medalists.

"Then it all came down to Maddie Rooney, and she had a gold medal-winning performance", USA forward Hilary Knight said.

After Lamoureux's goal, Maddie Rooney had to stop a shot from Meghan Agosta and knocked it aside to set off a raucous celebration for Team USA, which was able to shed years of frustration.

The U.S. beat Canada for gold in a shootout.

She told the publication afterwards the medal could be a consolation after they'd had time to "reflect, but not at the moment".

Sensex, Nifty close high over gains in global equities
Tata Steel (+3.65%), Auro Pharma (+2.91%), Vedanta (+2.88%), Yes Bank (+2.77%) and UPL (+2.48%) were the top gainers on Nifty50. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.

Czech Republic captain Martin Erat has played in the Olympics when the National Hockey League sent it stars to the Winter Games, and he's here now without the NHL's best.

"This victory is special and it's going to give us an even bigger platform to make a bigger difference".

Quick-fire strikes from Haley Irwin and Marie-Philip Poulin then swung the contest in the favour of the Canadian team in the second stanza. "It's so awesome", said Claire Bradford, who is 13-years -old and plays defense. They've won the gold for four consecutive years. Megan Keller had a one-on-one with Szabados, but the Canadian keeper was up to the task.

The game would remain tied at two all the way until the end of overtime, forcing the game to go to a high-intensity penalty shootout.

Many of the Team USA athletes took to Twitter to celebrate their win after the game. "I'm really sad for our team". We love them. It is unreal. "I'm just glad it worked out this time". It was a thrilling final, it was unreal. I think I'm sort of bittersweet right now that the journey is over just because these women are incredible.
