Bumble app bans users from posing with guns in pictures

Los Angeles Clippers on Twitter

Bumble now operates with almost 30 million users and the app is built upon encouraging women to make the first move-or send the initial message-in order to begin the online conversation.

Bumble said it had previously banned hate speech and inappropriate sexual content from the app to make it safer, and the gun image ban is another attempt to do so.

'Online behavior can both mirror and predict how people treat each other in the real world.

There is one exception.

The Austin, Texas-based app announced its plans on Monday, revealing that 5,000 moderators have been employed to remove any gun-related content from the app, aside from users in military or law enforcement uniform.

Bumble is also donating $100,000 to March For Our Lives, the group started by student survivors of the high school shooting that killed 17 students and teachersin Florida last month.

The Bumble "Empowerment Badge" will be featured on team uniforms and serve as a powerful reminder from these two world-class companies of how innovation and excellence come from including different perspectives and backgrounds. How Bumble worksIn addition to banning the photos, the company has asked its users to report anyone with a gun in their profile photo. Finkelstein went on to say that the ban is a stand that needs to be taken and "there's no place on the internet for someone's picture holding a gun". According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the Clippers' Gillian Zucker is the NBA's only female president of business operations, and the team has several top positions occupied by women including director of business development, chief financial officer and director of strategic partnerships. As part of the news, Bumble emphasized a commitment to more investment in companies with similar values.

Retailers such as Dick's Sporting Goods, L.L. Bean and Walmart have said they would raise the minimum age to purchase weapons and ammunition to 21. Some other weapons, like knives, will also be censored.
