'Dog-in' at NY Airport to Protest Overhead Bin Death

United Airlines diverted a flight from New Jersey to St Louis to drop off a dog at Akron Airport in Ohio which had been accidentally boarded

As we reported, a French bulldog died on a United flight last week after a flight attendant insisted the pup be stored in an overhead bin for the entire trip.

In addition to that, "Kokito's Law" would make it so pets have access to food and water, and would require animal welfare training for certain employees, CBS New York says.

Local leaders and pets participated in a "dog-in" Saturday, demanding justice for the dog who died in a United Airlines flight this week. The spokesperson said the dog was "safely delivered to its owners" and passengers on the diverted flight were "provided compensation" for the delay, though the airline did not describe what the compensation entailed.

The mishap is the third strike in a week for United. We remain in contact with the family to express our condolences and offer support.

According to Today, a dog leaving from New Jersey's Newark airport destined for Akron, Ohio was accidentally loaded onto a plane heading to St. Louis, Missouri. The flight crew said the case was blocking the aisle, so a flight attendant put it in the overhead storage bin, according to Kokito's owner, Catalina Robledo.

Alcantara's legislation would explicitly ban placing pets in overhead bins on flights, among other measures.

Kokito's death was not the first time United was involved in pet-related deaths.

Following Kokito's death, actress Olivia Munn told TMZ that she will never fly the airlines again.

The family's attorney said they want to know what will happen to the flight attendant involved.
