England scrum coach says their forwards are 'angry'

Joe Schmidt's Ireland seem to have usurped England as the new Northern Hemisphere power

England head-coach Eddie Jones has made seven changes for the visit of the newly crowned Natwest Six Nations champions Ireland's visit to Twickenham on Saturday.

At his media conference ahead of Wales' final Six Nations match against France, Gatland was asked about comments from Jones that surfaced this week in which he described Wales as a "little s-- place".

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt had earlier suggested World Rugby needed to tighten its regulations, saying: "I'm sure in retrospect people are probably thinking it's not the best thing to do".

"We feel the lineout is going to be important against Ireland - they've got a very good lineout team with three recognised jumpers", Jones said of James Ryan, Iain Henderson and Peter O'Mahony.

Jones again apologized for the unsavory comments he made about Ireland and Wales a year ago.

"We've done some good work on it (the breakdown)", he said.

Jones and England's governing Rugby Football Union both issued statements of apology on Wednesday and the Australian was in contrite mood as he sought to draw a line under the incident after naming his team to play Ireland. I think I've had two games at eight so far this season.

"He picked up a couple of bangs in the Scotland victory, so we're just easing him back into the week".

Later bringing up Wales, after they defeated the Japanese Under 20s team 125-0, Jones went on to say: "Wales, who knows Wales? Is [sic] any Welsh people here?"

That 13-9 defeat to Ireland in Dublin in last year's competition was one that denied England its 14th Grand Slam and this too could be motivation for England to be the spoiler this time around.

The 52-year-old New Zealander, who secured his third Six Nations title in the past five years last week with a game to spare, admitted his players would need to reach new levels of excellence to complete a clean sweep.

With England already enduring their worst campaign since 2009, Ireland have the chance to compound the dethroned champions' misery and inflict their third defeat of the championship - something they have not experienced since 2006 in a year that ended with head coach Andy Robinson losing his job.

Harlequins front-row Sinckler has won all his 12 previous Test caps, including three for the British and Irish Lions off the bench.

"We're all aware of what it is, and what could potentially come at the end of it, but I think what this group is really good at is focusing on what we need to do, and it's effectively just another game week".

World Rugby has removed Marius van der Westhuizen as assistant referee for the Six Nations game between England and Ireland on Saturday because the South African attended an England training session this week.
