Facebook is banning far-right party Britain First for peddling bigotry

Facebook removes pages of far-right British group

In a statement issued by facebook it says: "There are times though when legitimate political speech crosses the line and becomes hate speech created to stir up hatred against groups in our society".

Facebook is regularly criticised over content which it bans or indeed content it allows to be published. Their sick intentions to incite hatred within our society via social media are reprehensible, and Facebook's decision to remove their content is welcome. But it draws a line against hate speech. In June 2016, a British Labour MP named Jo Cox was stabbed and shot to death by a right-wing terrorist, Thomas Mair, who shouted "Britain first" during the attack and "death to traitors" at a later court appearance. Because they don't understand that Facebook is a private company capable of setting its own rules about what is and isn't acceptable.

Free speech or hate speech?

This morning the social network announced that it had removed the page of British far-right group Britain First from its platform.

Facebook says that the decision to implement bans was not taken lightly and that the moderators of the Britain First page, and Golding and Fransen, had received final written warnings about the content they were posting.

"More than any other group, Britain First overstepped the mark, even going as far as to show ISIS-style beheadings", Matthew Collins, the charity's researcher told the Guardian. The official, serious one is now gone, and it won't be coming back.

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik announce split in loving messages
Sources close to the couple assure that the break up was mutual and there is no hard feelings or resentment between them. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have huge respect and love for.

Britain First has not responded to the page removals; Golding and Fransen were recently hit with 18 and 36 weeks of jail time, respectively, after being convicted of religiously aggravated harassment, the BBC reports. Mair's connection to Britain First has never been proved, but his rhetoric echoed their message online.

Fransen and Golding are both now serving jail time for religiously-aggravated harassment in Kent.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: 'Britain First is a vile and hate-fuelled group whose sole objective is to sow division.

Britain First co-leader Fransen came to global attention in 2017 after a number of tweets she made claiming to highlight Muslim violence were re-tweeted by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Britain First had almost twice as many Facebook likes as the United Kingdom's mainstream Labour Party, which has only one million followers.
