Jimmy Graham needs Jordy Nelson-like connection with Aaron Rodgers

In a scenario that has been discussed at length since the end of last season, the Green Bay Packers released longtime wide receiver Jordy Nelson minutes after the reported signing of free-agent tight end Jimmy Graham on Tuesday.

The Packers officially released wide receiver Jordy Nelson on Tuesday afternoon and General Manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement that the franchise looks "forward to his eventual induction into the Packers Hall of Fame".

Graham has been one of the most prolific tight ends of his era, catching 69 touchdown passes since he entered the league with the New Orleans Saints as a third-round pick in 2010.

Nelson and Rodgers hold the Packers' record for most touchdowns by a quarterback-receiver duo with 65.

"I would say anywhere between two to four more years".

The Green Bay Packers are hard at work in free agency.

In August, Nelson told former Packers teammate A.J. Hawk on the HawkCast podcast he could see the end of his playing career on the horizon. That thought became even more likely after the Packers gave Davante Adams a big contract extension.

The Los Angeles Rams have kept themselves busy over the last couple of weeks when it comes to making the necessary moves to make sure they continue being one of the top teams to beat in the NFC during Sean McVay's second season as head coach. He caught nine passes for a team-high 140 yards and the game's opening touchdown for the Packers. Cobb was never the deep threat like Adams or Nelson is/was, but despite that, the playmaking has only come in spurts.

In a 2017 season disrupted by Aaron Rodgers' injury, Nelson's yards-per-catch total was 9.1 and he managed just 53 receptions and 482 yards in 15 games, which was much lower than previous years and just a season removed from posting 1,257 yards in 2016. It ultimately made a decision to release Nelson, which creates just over $10.2 million in added space for 2018, per Spotrac.
