Katy Perry Under Fire for Forcing Kiss on Idol Contestant

ABCBenjamin Glaze gives judge Katy Perry a kiss on

"I was a tad bit uncomfortable", Benjamin, who ended up not moving on in the competition, said. Actually, she invited him to do the honors, but when he gave what she considered a lackluster kiss on the cheek, she sneakily kissed him on the lips.

"Have you kissed a girl and liked it?" asked Mr. Bryan, making a coy reference to Ms. Perry's first hit single, "I Kissed A Girl". "I wanted it to be special".

In the clip, Perry calls out to Glaze to "come here" after learning of his never-been-kissed status, and Glaze appears shocked, but walks up to the judges table to face Perry. "I know a lot of guys would be like, 'Heck yeah!' But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately. That's what a real first kiss is".

The first attempt to kiss her cheek was a failure because he didn't "make the sound", and the second time Katy did the old "turn the cheek" trick, forcing him to kiss her on the lips.

Glaze then kicked off his audition with "Levels" by Nick Jonas, though it seemed his nerves got the best of him and the judges deemed him unfit for Hollywood.

Glaze's audition was not successful and he was sent home. But when one American Idol hopeful got the chance to kiss her, he didn't like it.

The incident took place in October but didn't air until Sunday's premiere. It was a viral moment, to be sure, but it wasn't too happy for Glaze - he says Perry kissed him on the lips without first asking.

He said he does not feel he was sexually harassed and is grateful to Ms. Perry for tweeting about him.

Katy waved him over and said, "Come here".

Telling Katy what he does for a living, he explained: "I'm a cashier at an electronic store but I love it because sometimes there's cute girls and they're not going anywhere without saying hi".

The first kiss of an aw-shucks teenager from Oklahoma, delivered by a superstar singer, might have made for a sweet pop-culture moment in a previous era. And many other viewers mirrored the sentiment of one fan, who wrote, "Lucky son of a gun".

ABC declined to comment on the matter.
