Nun involved in Katy Perry lawsuit dies after collapsing in court

The Nun Involved In 3 Year Legal Battle With Katy Perry Has Died Aged 89

In yet another twist to one of LA's strangest real estate battles, one of the nuns who disagreed with the judge's decision to award ownership of a Los Feliz convent to singer Katy Perry has died.

She collapsed during a court hearing related to the case in Los Angeles, according to CBS News.

Holzman and another nun, Sister Rita Callanan, disputed the sale, arguing they were already in talks to sell the property to restaurateur Dana Hollister for $44,000.

Concurrently, however, the Archdiocese made a deal to sell the Los Feliz property for $14.5 million to Perry, who planned to convert the 20,000-square-foot convent into a sprawling home. The court ruled that the nuns had no right to sell the property because it was owned by the Archdiocese.

Hours before her death, she said: "And to Katy Perry, please stop".

On Friday, Sister Catherine pleaded with Perry to stop and that she was hurting a lot of people.

'You have stolen the property of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart.

The nun's website Stand With The Sisters posted a message alongside a photo of Holzman acknowledging her death. "Please archbishop ... Do what is right in your heart".

"I was sad to hear the news of her passing and I have offered a mass for the repose of her soul", he said. A jury later determined Hollister intentionally tried to disrupt the sale and ordered her to pay $15 million in damages to be shared by Perry and the Archdiocese. According to the Associated Press, the Los Angeles archbishop had approved the star's bid, however official approval on the sale was yet to come through from The Vatican. They are now in a legal battle against Katy Perry, because the nuns planned to sell the property for a cool $15.5 million to a business woman named Dana Hollister, according to Just Jared.

In an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 2015, Callanan said that the nuns were against the sale because they didn't approve of the singer's image.

Katy Perry's court battle to buy an LA convent took a tragic turn on Friday. Asked about Cosby's current situation, she says she "just leave [s] all that to karma and justice". "She had nothing to do with forcing herself on us".
