Packers receive DeShone Kizer from Browns in Damarious Randall trade

Damarious Randall

The latest comes from ESPN's Adam Schefter and notes that Cleveland has acquired cornerback Damarious Randall from the Green Bay Packers. Kizer can be that player and learn from one of the NFL's best quarterbacks without the pressure that he had in Cleveland. However, because of the Kizer trade, Hundley is just another possibility the Cardinals have.

The teams have also swapped picks in the fourth and fifth rounds, according to Schefter.

After one hard season, the Browns threw DeShone Kizer away.

The embattled corner Randall had 4 interceptions last season (3 came in 3 consecutive weeks), but was also a headache for coach Mike McCarthy and the Packers staff.

Kizer was going to have to earn a spot with the Browns, and he'll be in a similar situation with the Packers, who were forced to start Brett Hundley nine games last season after Rodgers broke his collarbone. The former Notre Dame quarterback started 15 games as a rookie with the Browns, but he apparently has been identified by new G.M. John Dorsey as a player who needed to go - possibly due in part to the 28 turnovers he generated previous year. He responded with a stretch of three straight games with an interception and finished with a team-high four picks, but he missed the final two games with a knee injury that some in the organization thought he could have played through. Cleveland has a great defensive coordinator in Gregg Williams. In doing so, they might have just made Brett Hundley available for other teams. I do fully recognize that he has a lot of football in front of him.

With three major trades on Friday, the Cleveland Browns let it be known that they intend to be taken seriously. Veteran Davon House played extensively but was on a one-year deal, and the Packers have had only preliminary talks with his agent about a return. Unclear if picks are also involved.

Less than a week ahead of the start of the free agency period, the Cleveland Browns have significantly picked up their level of activity on Friday to improve their roster.
