Richard Sherman To Meet With 49ers On Saturday

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman runs after he intercepted a pass rom Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson late in the second half of an NFL football game in Seattle. The Seahawks

In a vacuum, it makes sense: The Lions' second- and third-string outside cornerbacks are both entering free agency, and a big-name veteran like Richard Sherman could not only replace, but upgrade the platoon of Nevin Lawson and D.J. Hayden.

From the sound of his most recent tweet, it doesn't sound like former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman signing with the San Francisco 49ers is imminent.

No player more than Sherman reflected the intensity of the 49ers-Seahawks rivalry when the NFC West rivals jostled from 2011-13 was at its zenith.

Sherman was in Las Vegas for NFL Players Association meetings until Friday afternoon but is thought to have then traveled to the Bay Area for his meeting with the 49ers.

Sherman balked at that so the Seahawks instead explored trade options.

The release by the team announcing the move had "parted ways" with Sherman and referred to him as "no longer on the team" and didn't mention whether he could return.

Sherman is recovering from two separate surgeries on his left and right Achilles tendons.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman told KIRO 97.3 FM on Friday, a flagship Seattle radio station. He has since undergone surgery on his other Achilles.

San Francisco started the offseason with a $137.5 million pact with impending free agent Jimmy Garoppolo. He joined the Packers' medical staff past year.

The Seahawks, looking to add salary cap space, released Sherman Friday after he reportedly refused to accept a pay cut from his $11 million base salary he was to earn during the 2018 season.

If Melvin doesn't re-sign, the Colts will need to bring in at least one solid cornerback in free agency.
