Set clocks one hour ahead for Daylight Saving Time this Sunday

While cell phones and many other clocks will automatically adjust to the time change your old-fashioned digital ones will need to be reset before you go to bed Saturday night

It was passed by the House on February 14, 103-11.

Daylight Saving Time has been observed over the years, starting as early as the 19th century, but it was not uniformly practiced.

Since 2007, daylight saving time, or DST for short, begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. Notable exceptions are Hawaii and most parts of Arizona.

The days will get steadily longer until the summer solstice on June 21 with sunset at 9:11 p.m. - a full 16 hours of daylight.

Daylight Savings Time started in Europe during World War I as a way to economize fuel usage.

While that doesn't seem like much more than an inconvenience, that slight change can affect our internal clocks, making it more hard to fall asleep, and to wake up on time. They stay on standard time throughout the year.

Other people, however, don't like the idea of trying to trick our bodies and our daily routines by adjusting the clocks. "They can't keep their shops open", he said.

It is thought that Americans would spend less time in their cars in the evening, which would cause fewer accidents, and more people would enjoy an extra hour of daylight by doing outdoor activities.

Most smart devices (phones, computers, televisions) should update themselves in order to show the correct time, but others such as your auto, oven and microwave will need to be adjusted manually. Northwest Florida is now in the Central time zone.
